Every HEIGS bag begins with a single sheet of full-grain calf leather, selected for its grain, suppleness, and capacity to develop a rich patina over years of use. Our leather is semi-vegetable tanned — a process that takes weeks rather than hours, preserving the natural character of the hide.
The bags are hand-sculpted in a French atelier by Eloise, an artisan trained in French haute maroquinerie. Each bag takes several days to complete. There is no assembly line. Every stitch, every edge, every hardware placement is considered and executed by hand.
Why Swiss Heritage Matters
HEIGS was founded in Bern with a conviction: that a bag should be an object of quiet permanence. Switzerland has a long tradition of precision craft — in watchmaking, in engineering, in textiles. We bring that same sensibility to leather goods.
Our bags are not seasonal. They are not trend-driven. They are made to be carried for decades, developing a patina that records their life alongside yours.
Materials and Construction
We use smooth full-grain calf leather with a semi-vegetable tanning process that gives it a waxed touch and semi-supple hand. The lining is organic cotton canvas with a very tight weave, making it slightly waterproof. Each lining is hand-dyed in our atelier.
The hardware is Zamac in gunmetal colour, chosen for its weight and durability. On the En Suisse bag, protective feet line the base — designed to preserve the leather without compromising the silhouette.
